VISIT THE BATTLEFIELDS WHEN YOU CAN...WHILE YOU CAN
Jefferson Davis, Before & After the Civil War

by Rob MacGregor, Little Rock CWRT

We've all read books or heard speeches about the exploits of Jefferson Davis while he served as president of the Confederate States of America.  But what of this man before and after his tenure as head of the doomed secession movement?

How did a West Point graduate-turned-planter find himself at the center of our nation's greatest conflict?  And what became of Davis after the last guns sounded?

Rob MacGregor
will attempt to shed some light on these lesser-known periods of Davis'  life at our coming meeting.

THANKS TO Drew Hodges, of the North Pulaski CWRT, for his fine presentation of Longstreet: Lee's Old Warhorse.  Drew gave us plenty of informative details on a topic many know of but know little about.

THE 3D ARKANSAS/14TH OHIO re-enacting unit in north Arkansas has contributed $1,000 to the Flag Conservation Fund at the Old State House.

OSH Director Willard (Bill) Gatewood was featured recently in the High Profile section of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.  Bill is doing a great job at the Old State House, helping to make it one of the premier Civil War museums in the state, which also displays fine exhibits about other eras in Arkansas history.
If you haven't visited it lately, you owe yourself the visit!

THE ANNUAL ELECTION is in November.
Nominees are:  President, Gaylord Northrop;
vice president, Randy Baldwin;
secretary/editor, Jerry Russell;
and treasurer, Brian Brown.

Don't forget, our 40th birthday will be in March.  Maybe we should have something special.

SEE YOU TUESDAY NIGHT
for Rob MacGregor on Jeff Davis.

AND REMEMBER---2004 dues are due and are $15!

We Who Study Must Also Strive To Save!
GOD BLESS AMERICA!
